SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Exam 2026: Full Details & Apply Link

The Staff Selection Commission has released the official notification for the SSC Stenographer 2026 exam. Through this recruitment process, the Commission will fill approximately 731 vacant posts for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ positions. Interested candidates can submit online applications from April 24, 2026, to May 15, 2026. The Commission has scheduled the computer-based examination for July-August 2026.

As an educational qualification, candidates must have passed the 12th grade from a recognized board. The age limit for Grade ‘C’ is 18 to 30 years and for Grade ‘D’ is 18 to 27 years. Consequently, reserved categories will receive age relaxation as per government regulations.Candidates must apply online only on the official website. The application fee is ₹100, but it is completely free for women and SC/ST candidates. Finally, Candidates must pass the written examination to reach the Stenography Skill Test stage.

How to Apply Online

Step 1: One-Time Registration (OTR)

To apply on the new SSC website, it is mandatory to register first-

  • Go to the official SSC website, ssc.gov.in.
  • Click the ‘Login or Register’ button on the homepage and select ‘Register Now’.
  • Enter your personal information such as name, father’s name, date of birth, mobile number, and email.
  • Enter your Aadhaar number or other identification details.
  • Upon completion of registration, you will receive a registration number and password.

Step 2: Login and Filling the Application Form

Log in using your registration number and password-

  • Find the link for ‘Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination, 2026′ on the dashboard and click ‘Apply’.
  • Select your educational qualifications and your choice of exam centers.
  • Confirm your category and other required details.

Step 3: Live Photo and Signature Upload

This time, SSC has changed the rules, so read them carefully-

  • Live Photo: You must capture your live photo using a webcam or the SSC’s official mobile app. The background should be light and well-lit.
  • Signature: Upload your digital signature (size 10 to 20 KB, format JPEG/JPG).

Step 4: Payment of Application Fee

  • After checking all the details, click ‘Submit’.
  • You will then be redirected to the payment gateway.
  • Pay the ₹100 fee via net banking, BHIM UPI, or debit/credit card (fee is zero for women, SC, ST, and differently-abled candidates).

Step 5: Take a Printout

  • After making the payment, please confirm that the fee has been deposited through the ‘Payment Status’ link on your dashboard.
  • Finally, take a printout of your completed application form or save it as a PDF.

FAQs

Q1.Can students studying in 12th grade fill out the form?
Ans:Yes, if your results are declared by August 1, 2026, you are eligible. Results declared after this date will result in your candidacy being cancelled.

Answer: You will now need to take live photos using a webcam or mobile app instead of old photos. Do not wear glasses, a hat, or a mask when taking photos.

Ans: Anyone can take the written exam, but only those who know stenography are eligible. Passing the skill test is mandatory for final selection.

Answer:The Commission will deduct 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in the Computer Based Examination. Therefore, please pay special attention to this when answering the questions.
